Events

SCREEN is a forum for viewing and discussion of works-in-progress by local film/video-makers hosted by the MIT Visual Arts Program. At each screening, two artists present works-in-progress, occasionally accompanied by films and videos which inspire or inform their work. Projects can be at various stages of development from treatments and rough footage to final edits. Screenings are open to all, whether as viewer or presenter. Those interested in showing a work-in-progress should supply a brief description of their project, the length of material and the format(s) to screen@mit.edu. We can accommodate DVD, VHS, 16mm film, Super 8mm film, QuickTime files, and internet display. Artists will have approximately 45 minutes for presentation and discussion of their material. Screen is currently run by Dan Van Roekel, Joe Gibbons, and Jess Wheelock and was created by Dan Van Roekel, Joe Gibbons, Louise Bourque, and Joe Zane.

Architecture of the Sun with
The Glass Shivers

Brittany Gravely presents AMERICAN PSYCHE: The Cinematic & The Civilized,
The premiere, raw run-through of a slide presentation attempting to invoke the immortal Patrick Bateman and study his relationship to the state of souls in a soulless environment. As the möbius strip of media and reality binds us to delusion and denial, does American Psycho carry a cosmic message? Is the fate of Christian Bale tied to our own? Video clips, primitive sketches, dramatizations, and Powerpoint round out this potentially-awkward, whirlwind lecture. (Includes some violence and nudity, but very little intellectual terminology.)

Architecture of the Sun with
The Glass Shivers -
Witness the telepathic energy flowing between improvised electro-acoustic alchemy of The Glass Shivers (Ken Linehan & Rick Prior) and the hallucinations harnessed on 16mm by Architecture of the Sun (Brittany Gravely * Jenn Pipp. Manipulating the audio and visuals as they emerge, the respective conjurers will be testing out effects new and ancient.

Down and Out in Buffalo

Down & Out in Buffalo (Prologue)
5 minutes DV widescreen
shot 2005; editing in progress

An unidentified malaise afflicts three unlikely patrons at a nondescript bar in downtown Buffalo. The relationship between the three is ambiguous. There seems to be a triangle dynamic shifting among the three people; there are also hints of a suicide pact about to be carried out. Buffalo is a dangerous place in the dead of winter.

To The Burgers - Gretchen Burger

“To the Burgers”, a documentary short that profiles the Burger family as they sit down around their kitchen table and sort through the post-cards sent by their father during his deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Gretchen Burger is an independent producer and editor with over ten years experience in documentary filmmaking and television production.

Shapes 2 - Andres Zuniga

My video paintings are basically shapes in motion. They change from second to second. The goal is for people to find answers; personal answers that come from their background. I want the viewers to put what is not there, and give my work through them an always new, unique and personal perspective.

Andres G. Zuniga (Lima, Peru, 1977) is currently earning his MFA in Film and Video at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Andres is an immigrant from Lima, Peru who before coming to America worked in a record store for seven years.
